Snapdragon 820 is the latest SoC from Qualcomm that was released in 2015 Mobile World Congress to fix the temperature problem of its predecessor, Snapdragon 810. Comparing with before chipsets of Snapdragon series, Snapdragon 820 improves a lot in good performance even it reduces the cores used in the CPU, which has a maximum 2.2GHz clock speed and is quad-core, not octa-core, as the architecture is totally different from its predecessors. Snapdragon 820 is a 14nm quad core processor and is comprised of the X12 LTE modem, Kryo CPU, Adreno 530 GPU, Hexagon DSP and Spectra ISP. Below are the specs list of Snapdragon 820.

As an added element of futureproofing, it’ll also include support for the recently unveiled Vulkan API as well as the more common OpenGL 3.1 used on most current Android games.

Snapdragon 820 Benchmark

As the Qualcomm company’s plan, Snapdragon 820 is designed for high end smartphones and competes with other high end smartphone chips like Apple’s newest mobile chip A9 and Samsung’s Exynos 8890. Recently, a picture from Antutu indicates that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 manages to beat other major competitors to rank top 1 in the smartphone chip performance.
